Well it’s that time of year again!!! Can you believe it!

So it’s a good a time as any to take some time to reflect on 2018, the good, the bad and the ugly! so we can improve on the things we need too and reward ourselves for a job well done!

This year we’ve seen some amazing opportunities come through the door and can’t thank our clients enough for putting your trust in us to get the job done. We’ve also had many challenges which keeps us on our toes and life interesting!

Probably the biggest challenge this year and a massive learning curve for me was finding that illusive balance of work/mummy life.

I have to admit when I started back working in January after maternity leave, I was so super excited to get stuck back in, I think I overindulged a little! By march I was seeing the consequences! Work compiled with general life, a 1st birthday and cyclone Marcus, saw me completely stressed and working every spare minute. That is not what I wanted and had to learn probably the hardest thing when running a business as a sole trader, which is, how much work can I actually take on and have a life and be a normal person too!

Since my minor March meltdown, I am proud to say that I think I have actually found that work/mummy life balance (until the next one comes along!). I am only working 3-4 days a week to ensure I still have that quality family time I want.

Here’s a little snapshot of our year, the good, the bad and the ugly!

This year I am proud to say we have worked on a variety of awesome jobs including numerous office fitouts for both NT Government and the private sector, retail tenancies at Casuarina Square & Gateway, a health clinic in Alice Springs, a new day spa, a new sporting facility and some exciting high school refurbishments. Not only have we completed these projects, but we have made new clients and relationships too. The most important thing to a successful business!

Working in a small town like Darwin, I am very lucky that 99% of my work comes from word of mouth. However, this year, Schapel Interiors had its first client who found us on Google! This is a big deal and makes me super excited! 1. Because it shows that google is doing its job and the effort I put into my website is actually worth it, and 2. Because it shows there ARE still people out there, complete strangers willing to give you a go!

I also have to mention in here that mid-year I got to tick off a massive bucket list item and visit New York City! As an interior designer this is the ultimate. Ok, enough said!

So as 2018 draws to an end, I’d like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you to my amazing clients, people who have supported me throughout the year, sales reps that go out of their way to assist, the general Darwin community who are always so friendly and approachable, fellow peers that provide encouragement, my business and industry mentors and to you people reading, liking and sharing my social media and spreading the word. But Schapel Interiors wouldn’t be possible without the support of my loving family. So, to you all thank you, thank you, thank you!

This is the part where I tell you I’m going to go and have a relaxing 2 weeks off work, but the reality is that when you have your own business, you never really stop working! But you know what, that’s okay coz I enjoy what I do!

So I’m going to have a few days off now, concentrate on the most important thing, that is family and I hope you are all spending the holidays with loved ones too.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all, from my little family to yours.
